Banana and Cookie Crisp shake

Ryan-"What will a banana shake with Cookie crisp taste like together?"

Ingredients we use for this "experiment":

2 Bananas
1 tablespoon of white vanilla
1/4 cup of granulated sugar (you can use less or none)
3 cups of milk
1/2 cup of Cookie Crip (more for decorations)
Ice (as much you like)
Dairy Whipped topping

Steps we took:

Using a blender, mix together the bananas, vanilla, sugar, milk and ice until well combined. Then add the Cookie Crisp and blend it just enough to break into small pieces. Pour in glass, top it with whipped cream and decorate.

It was delicious!! Perfect for summer time!!!

Water & Air

Can you dunk some matches and paper in water and not get it wet? lets find out!

You will need:
  • 3 matches
  • Newspaper sheet
  • Tall drinking glass
  • Deep bowl
  • Water
  • Parent Supervision

1. Fill a bowl with water.

2. Crumple the newspaper with the matches inside. Push inside the bottom of the drinking glass. Turn the glass up-side down to make sure the newspaper remains at the bottom of the glass.

3. Hold the glass upside down and push it inside the water. Make sure not to turn the glass sideways.

4. Now take out the glass and remove the newspaper and matches- both are dry!!

Why this happened:
When you pushed the glass into the water, the glass was not empty. It was full of air-this prevented the water to enter the glass and so, keeping the newspaper and matches dry!!

Making BUTTER!!!!

Hi everyone!!
Richie found an easy project for us this week, making butter. Even though this blog is called "Keep Boys Busy" the projects here are for boys and girls alike. So lets get started!

You will need:
  • Landolake (or any other brand) Heavy Whipping Cream (236ml)
  • Deep bowl
  • Electric hand mixer
Steps:
  1. Two days in advanced- leave the heavy cream carton out on your counter.
  2. Then pour the sour two-day cream on a bowl and whip for several minutes with hand mixer.
  3. The milk will start to turn into a cream- this is BUTTER!!!! Your butter will look a bit different from the one you buy at the store, because the butter you buy has salt and yellow food coloring.

Why this happen:
The cream is the fat taken from the milk. So when it is whipped, the fat sticks together to form butter!

Enjoy the butter!

Waggling Worms

You will need:

  • Spaghetti
  • Crystal clear bowl
  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  1. Cook the spaghetti. Let it cool and then cut a few strands of spaghetti into 1 1/2 inch pieces.

2. In the bowl, mix the cup of vinegar and the cup of water.

3. Add a few drops of red and blue food coloring.

4. Slowly add the 2 tablespoons of baking soda.

5. Now drop the pieces of cooked spaghetti into the bowl.

What will happen?
It will look like worms are waggling back and forth!

Why?
The vinegar and baking soda forms a gas bubble, which makes the spaghetti lighter to rise to the surface. Once on top the bubble break open and the spaghetti fall back. And then the process is repeated.

Keeping my boys busy!!

Introducing... Joshua, Jordan, Ryan and Richie

With Four boys under the age of 10, I have learned to keep them entertained. Not an easy thing to do for many reasons: I was never into sports, I'm not talkative mom and I do get bored easily. But, what I am good at- is doing creative projects. And keeping them busy is essential to my sanity!!

This blog was actually Richie's idea. He is my oldest son and quite the fixer-upper in my home. He was inspired by my own blog on Dominican cake decorating and wanted to do one on Science projects.

Ryan, Joshua and Jordan wanted to be part of this as well, but wanted to add more to the blog than just Science. So the idea of doing a blog on all our projects emerged.

A name was picked; and as I write these words they stand behind and next to me - loud and extremely happy on this new project. This will be theirs to share with the world.

Enjoy!
